The last rites of the sitting congress MLA, Elangbam Kunjeswar was performed today with full state honoured.
The legislature of Manipur Assembly died of his illness on Thursday morning at Gangaram Hospital in New Delhi where he has been under medical treatment for the last around half a month.
State Governor, Gurbachan Jagat, chief minister, O Ibobi Singh, Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee, CPI, Manipur State Council and others condoled on the sudden demise of the congress legislature Kunjeswar.
He was 77. The mortal remain of the deceased leader was brought at Imphal from New Delhi today.
It was received by the MLAs, family, relatives, well wishers and people of Yaiskul Assembly at Imphal Airport.
Volunteers of Congress Committee Seva Dal gave last salute there.
The lifeless body of the MLA was brought to the Congress Bhavan, Imphal were Congress leaders led by chief minister, O Ibobi, party president Gaikhangam and workers paid floral tributes.
Later, the mortal remain was transported at the Manipur Legislative Assembly campus.
There also floral tributes were given to the departed soul.
Speaker of the Assembly, S Budhichandra led in paying the floral tributes in which chief minister, O Ibobi, opposition leader Radhabinod Koijam, O Joy, ministers and MLAs also present.
The body was again moved to Govinda Temple, Palace compound where people gathering there offered floral tributes.
He was also the vice chairman of the Govindaji Temple Board.
With a procession of people, the lifeless body of the leader was carried to some places in Yaiskul Kendra and finally reached to his resident at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak to perform the last rites.
Kunjeswar who was elected for the second time in the 2007 Assembly election from Yaiskul Assembly Constituency defeating his nearest rival former chief minister, RK Dorendro held the post of deputy chairman, state planning commission.
He was an IAS officer who later entered to state politics after elected in the year 1995 for the first time in the state Assembly on congress ticket after retirement.
He was the minister of planning at that time.
He died today morning at Gangaram Hospital, New Delhi where he has been treated with a portrait gland enlargement problem since the first week of this current month.
He was born on January 1, 1932 as son of E Leiren Singh at Wangkhei Yonglan Leirak, Imphal.
He was survived by his wife Y Ibempishak Devi and seven children, three sons and four daughters.
He was first elected to the Manipur Legislative Assembly in 1995 to the 6th Manipur Legislative Assembly on BJP Ticket and merged into INC.
He was the minister in charge of Planning, CADA and Law and Legislative Affairs.
Re-elected in 2007 election to the 9th Manipur Legislative Assembly on INC Ticket, he became the Vice-Chairman, State Planning Board.
