Manipur celebrates foundation day of States

The Statehood Day of Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura which falls on January 21 and the Statehood day of Uttar Pradesh (Jan 24) and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Jan 26) were jointly celebrated at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal today.
With the introduction of the North-East Area (Re-organisation) Act 1971, the three North-eastern States, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura attained Statehood on January 21, 1972 .
Governor Anusuiya Uikey wished the people of the States of Manipur, Meghalaya, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh and Dadra Nagar Haveli a bright future, long life, good health, happiness, prosperity and progress, said PRO Raj Bhavan in a statement.

Gracing the celebration function as chief guest, the Governor said Manipur has been going through difficult times for more than eight months, and the Central and the State Governments are making continuous efforts through civil and social organizations to resolve the problem through dialogues in a cordial environment for restoration of peace and normalcy.
She appealed to the people to sit together and solve the problem through discussion and dialogues.
"The prosperity of the State and welfare of citizens are linked to the progress of the country.
Let us resolve to protect the integrity and unity of the country," she said.
The country has celebrated the Amrit Mahotsav of Independence with the imagination and inspiration of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In this campaign, under the concept of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat, all the States of the country are celebrating the foundation days of each other's States, she said.
On this day in 1972, Manipur, Meghalaya and Tripura were established with the hope and belief that these States would provide all-round development to their citizens in terms of natural resources and administrative facilities in their respective areas, she said.
The Governor said all these States are now moving on the path of progress with their own diversity and characteristics.
The purpose of celebrating Foundation Day is to introduce the youth and citizens of each State to other States' art, culture, music, dance, festivals, language, costumes, traditions, and tourist places.
"Through such events, youth become familiar with the culture of the country and States.
Our country is currently at a turning point and has the potential to shape the new world economy.
Therefore, it is the responsibility of all of us to make India a developed Nation with integrity, transparency, hard work, honesty and fairness," she added.
Students of Central Agricultural University, Tripura and Meghalaya Campus, RIMS and artistes of JN Dance Academy, Imphal showed enchanting cultural performances in the ceremony.
M Joy Singh, Commissioner (Art & Culture), Gyan Prakash, Commissioner, Vice Chancellors of Manipur University, DM University, Manipur Technical University, Manipur University of Culture and Central Agricultural University, Imphal, Padma awardees, Arjuna awardees, women journalists of Manipur, students and youths from Meghalaya and Tripura participated in the ceremony.
