World Tuberculosis Day observed

The District Health Society, National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Senapati organised the 43rd World Tuberculosis Day 2024 today at DRDA Conference Hall, Senapati under the theme "Yes! We can end TB" .
Speaking as the chief guest of the programme, Adahrii Maheo, MCS, CEO/ ADC, Senapati stated that TB disease has been an issue of social economic and humanitarian challenge in the society as it affected not only the infected individual but family and community as a whole.
He stressed on the need of making concerted efforts in fighting against the disease.
Dr Sumpi Percy, Chief Medical Officer, Senapati while addressing the gathering spoke about the mode of treatment and appealed to all to take proper medication and precaution.
She also applauded the Nikshak Mitra/donors for their contributions in the fight against TB.
Delivering the welcome address, Dr L Muanching, DTO, Senapati said that World TB day is a flagship event of NTEP to commemorate Dr Robert Koch's discovery of Mycobacterium tuberculosis that caused TB (Tuberculosis).
She also said that world TB day is observed to raise public awareness about TB and its devastating health, social and economic impact on people around the world and make efforts to eradicate TB.
She highlighted that there are four DMC's (Designated Microscopic Centre) in Senapati district namely DTC, Senapati, Mao CHC, Paomata PHC and Maram PHC for free testing, diagnosing and treatment of TB.
To address the issues of TB effectively, TB Free Senapati Project was set up in February 2023 with funding from the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) to find out TB cases and take up steps for its treatment through the dedicated efforts of around 200 volunteers in their respective villages.
During the programme, testimony sharing was carried out by TB Champion.
Nikshay Mitras donors were felicitated with the certificate of appreciation for their remarkable contribution: Food baskets�were distributed to TB patients.
A short video clip on TB was also screened and certificates of appreciation were handed over to volunteers/ TB warriors.
Today's programme was attended by DLO's, CSOs, volunteers and school principals and students.
