CNPO holds 5th federal assembly, condemns baseless allegations

The 5th Federal Assembly of the Chandel Naga People's Organisation (CNPO) was convened today at Modi community hall, Chandel district Headquarters.
The assembly was attended by various civil society organizations along with the tribe presidents of all Naga Tribes of Chandel, said a press release by information and publicity secretary, CNPO.
The assembly recognised Tangkhul Naga Union Chandel (TNUC) as an 'associate unit' of CNPO.
Henceforth, TNUC will participate in all the events and activities of CNPO like any other tribes of Chandel with the exception of voting rights.
A number of resolutions were also passed during the assembly.
The assembly also condemned the false and baseless allegation raised in a news item published on October 16, 2023 by Ts Behlung, Chief of Abungnikhu regarding the alleged involvement of CNPO executives and Langsai Thouna of levying taxes on trucks ferrying goods.
CNPO found that there is no substance or truth in the allegation after conducting an investigation on the concerns of the contents of the news.
It may be noted that the Unique Business Association Chandel executives present at the time of the incident have confirmed that the allegation to be totally false and fabricated.
In view of the above, the assembly cautioned all the traders and individuals to refrain from creating unnecessary trouble without fully exploring the complexities of the situation and without substance affecting the movement of all the goods and services of the people due to this false allegation.
CNPO and its constituent units appealed to Langsai Thouna and Meira Paibis at Kakching Lamkhai to allow the normal flow of movement of good and services in the interest of the people considering the prevailing situation.
Further it informed that CNPO will undertake measures to enforce customary law on Ts Behlung, Chief of Abungnikhu, added the press release.
Meanwhile, the Unique Business Association Chandel (UBAC) held a meeting yesterday in connection with the aforementioned issue and termed the allegations as false and baseless.
UBAC in a press note clarified that Langsai Thouna Kakching Lamkhai and its volunteers were not involved in the said incident.
Further UBAC informed that the UBAC membership of Lh Hosnary has been cancelled and all her business activities shall be banned with immediate effect until she clarifies the baseless allegation made through her village chief.
The association strongly condemned such statements and warned the person concerned not to be involved in this kind of act in future.
