Imphal, August 10 2010:
While calling upon all the people of the North East region to boycott the Independence Day celebrations, six different insurgent outfits of the region have declared a general strike throughout the region from 1 am to 6.30 pm of August 15 .
A joint statement issued by the Kamtapur Liberation Organisation (KLO), Manipur People's Liberation Front (MPLF), National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB), National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), Tripura Peoples' Democratic Front (TPDF) and the United Liberation Front of Asom (ULFA) claimed that their National liberation struggles are moving in the right direction towards a united struggle against the common enemy, though many stiff hurdles remain to be crossed.

India's massive military effort and divide and rule policy may have achieved some tactical victories here and there, but on the whole their attempt to suppress the legitimate aspirations of the peoples to become free and independent have not succeeded and will never succeed.
"This is the inner strength of our struggle that will ultimately throw out the Indian rule from our region.
We must believe in our collective wisdom and strength.
And we must have faith in the historical destiny of the region coexistence and collective development", the rebel groups said.
Meanwhile, the geo-political climate around the region is perceivably changing in favour of the liberation struggles.
"We are emboldened by the intensification of the Kashmiri people's national liberation struggle exposing to the core the inherent contradictions of the Indian Union which was expanded through intrigue, treachery and force", the rebels groups claimed.
The most significant development of all is that the overthrow of the present regime in India has become a distinct possibility in view of the unprecedented consolidation of India's communist revolution under a single party.
The wide reach of the armed struggle under the leadership of the Communist Party of India (Maoists), encompassing almost 30 per cent of the Indian landmass and representing over 75 per cent of the population has alarmed the Indian Govt to the extent of categorising it as one of three most dangerous threat to their regime, the other threats being, in India's official vocabulary 'international terrorism' and 'insurgency' )meaning the liberation struggles of Kashmir and the North East region).
All these factors would serve to the advantage of the liberation movements in the North East region only when the entire peoples of the region along with the liberation forces become united and fight against Indian rule to regain sovereignty and independence.
This is the reality that does no permit any 'peace talk' under India's terms and conditions, or even without pre-conditions.
Because such peace talks are the very tool the Indian Government has successfully used in alluring even the most powerful struggles into submission.
"Therefore, we should not commit the mistake of falling into trap any more", the rebel groups assured themselves.
While making maximum effort to generate internal strength, the rebel groups appealed to the international community, particularly the fraternal peoples of neighbouring countries for their valuable help and support to the national liberation struggle of the North East region.
The outfits expressed hope that their respective Governments' bilateral relations do not become directed against the struggle of the North East people in their enthusiasm to fight together against 'terrorism' etc.
They further called upon the people to display their solidarity against the alien rule.
