Eight underground activists including two women extortionists were apprehended by the security forces and police commandos in different counter insurgency operations in the last two days.
An activist of the KYKL (Oken) and two women were apprehended by the troops of Red Shield Division from Potshangbam Mamang Leikai and Chingmayi and Keibul respectively said a statement of the PIB Defense Wing today.
The KYKL activist identified as Self Styled Lance Corporal Khundrakpam Jiten (40) son of K Tolango of Potshangbam Mamang Leikai of Bishnupur District was nabbed yesterday by an Army team of 4/8 Gorkha Rifles.
The two women extortionists were nabbed by a joint team of 33 Assam Rifles and Bishnupur Police Commandos along with women police constables of Moirang Police Station on the same day.
They were identified as Salam Ibemcha alias Surbala (34) wife of late Salam Deva of of Chingmei, Bishnupur district and Ningthoujam Manileima (40) wife of late N Chandra of Keibul.
Manileima was nabbed in a follow up operation to the nabbing of Surbala who has been alleged of being a woman OGW working for the PREPAK outfit.
Her husband was an activist of UNLF killed by Police Commandos, the statement added.
She along with Manileima carries out extortion activities.
Both the women OGWs have been handed over to Moirang Police on the same day.
Besides extortion, they also involved in recruitment and moving the unemployed youth out of the country borders for training at undergrounds camps.
Their arrest is an indication about the involvement of widows and helpless women, who are being used as sympathizers by the underground groups, the statement alleged.
Imphal West Police Commandos also apprehended an active member of the KCP (City Meetei) from Uripok area yesterday, at about 11.20 am acting on a credible information, a statement of Senior SP, Imphal West District L Kailun said.
The nabbed activist was identified as Thiyam Dong of Uripok Huidrom Leikai.
One .32 pistol with magazine loaded with two live rounds along with one mobile handset recovered from his possession, the statement added.
An UNLF cadre identified as Khangembam Iboton (61) of Kumbi Laishangong Mamang Leikai was also apprehended by a team of Thoubal police commandos yesterday at about 10.30 am.
He works as bus timekeeper at Kumbi Bazar and collected an amount of Rs 5,200 from buses plying on Tidim road for the outfit, a statement of the Senior SP, Thoubal, Clay Khongsai said.
Imphal east police commandos apprehended two cadres of KCP (KK Nganba) group identified as Sarangthem Boboy (33) son of S Khamba and Sarangthem Davi (42) son of S Kulachandra, both from Thambalkhong Leirak from the locality yesterday at about 9 am, a statement of additional SP, Imphal East District (L/O) L Ibotomba said .
