The body of a man reported to be missing was found in a decomposed state inside a gorge near Siguilong village under Nungba Police Station of Tamenglong district.
The deceased has been identified as Khundrakpam Jhotin (34) s/o Ibomcha of Keinou, Bishnupur district.
His body was found inside a 500 feet deep gorge near Siguilong village located along National Highway 53 (Imphal-Jiribam road).
Family members who had gone to look for him found the body yesterday afternoon.
The skin on the head as well as the hair have decomposed only the skull.
However, there were some skin on his left and other parts of the body.
The body was nude and there was no cloth around.
The left hand was found fractured.
The family members could recognise the body from the finger nails.
A shopkeeper at Keinou Bazar, Jhotin had been reported missing from Siguilong area on the night of July 18 and his whereabouts had not been known.
On that fateful day, Jhotin was returning to Imphal from Jiribam.
When the passenger bus in which he was travelling along with others broke down, they spent the night at Siguilong village.
Following an argument over the price of some food items that he had gone to purchase, Jhotin was reportedly chased by around 4/5 people armed with knives and sticks.
That was the last anyone saw of him.
The body of Jhotin was taken out from the gorge by the family members with the help of villagers today.
How Jhotin died is yet to be confirmed.
Nungba PS has registered a case and investigation is on to nail the people behind the killing.
