Drug abuse awareness campaign, health camps held

Ukhrul, March 04 2024:
A one day awareness campaign on drug abuse was held at Hoomi village on the theme 'End it Now' yesterday.
The awareness campaign was jointly organised by the Weaker Community's Action for Development (WCAD), District AIDS Prevention Control Unit (DAPCU), Police Department Ukhrul, Society for Promotion of Youth and Masses (SPYM), Participatory Action for Sustainable Development Organization (PASDO), Citizens Alliance for Re-empowerment (CARE) and Social Network Model (SNM) and Social Integrated Development Organisation (SIDO) .
The campaign was sponsored by Transport, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Minister Khashim Vashum.
During the awareness campaign, Ringthing Hongchui, Additional SP (Ops) Ukhrul spoke about social problems caused by drug abuse while Vaomi Shang, SNM Ukhrul spoke about drug overdose management and Kulajit Maisnam SIDO secretary spoke about substance addiction and necessity of treatment.
In line with the above campaign, health camps were held at Hoomi village yesterday and at Halang village today organised by SIDO.
Dr Vikash and Dr Akuli deputed by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Ukhrul, Dr AS Kapangring examined the villagers for their various health concerns during the health camps.
More than 600 villagers availed the benefits of the health camps.
