MU employees agitate

In sync with the resolution adopted at the August 30-31 national council meeting of All India University Employees' Confederation (AIUEC) at Bangalore University campus, members of Manipur University Staff Association today resorted to mass casual leave and staged protest march cum sit-in demonstration.
highlighting various demands the Association members took out the protest march from the MU bus stand and returned to the starting points after a silent procession inside the varsity campus.
According to AIUEC, North Eastern Region secretary Soramcha Jiban the agitation was held simultaneously at other universities of the country to demand among others uniform UGC pay scale, uniform service condition, representation on non-teaching employees in university bodies, release of adequate grants through the UGC to all the universities, stop commodification and FDI in higher education, stop contractual appointments and fill up vacant posts immediately.
Pointing out that in the first phase agitation two hour general strike was enforced in all the universities from 11 am on September 25, Jiban also confided that in case there is no positive response from the Ministry of Human Resource to the AIUEC demands, representatives of each unit would discuss further course of agitation at Tripura University on october 25 and 26 .
Possibility of the aggrieved university staffers gheraoing forthcoming parliamentary session cannot be ruled out if the Ministry continues to ignore the demands, affirmed the secretary.
