Imphal, April 29 2010:
The proscribed Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has conveyed greetings to the people on the occasion of May Day, and called on the people to give the workers dignity and higher status.
Secretary Publicity, RPF, T Leisemba, in a message, said that every nook and corner of the world welcomes May Day (Labour Day) .
"The day gives international community hopes and aspirations and its significance is not lost to us," Leisemba said.
He said, while RPF too welcomes the Day, it appeals to the "beloved countrymen in Manipur where majority is the poor and working class" to welcome the Day.
"Taking into consideration of the changing global scenario, we all should take a collective stand to cultivate work culture so as to make Manipur a strong and prosperous society.
Lack of work culture, courageous and industrious men lead to the fall of small society like ours.
Therefore the utmost task lying before all of us is to cultivate work culture, work hard and make Manipur an industrious society.
If we go back to history we will find hard work was a tradition of Manipuri society," Leisemba said.
"However, this work culture tradition is gradually fading because of outside influence.
We all should be on war footing to regain this lost tradition and habit.
Hard working labourers are the ones who are giving life to a society as our blood vessels are giving life to human beings.
If the working class fails to perform their parts, its consequence will be more devastating than natural calamities.
If the workers are hard working, the impact of natural calamities could be reduced considerably," the press release stated.
"Hardworking men are healthy people and therefore they always turn out to be good soldiers and patriots when called for duty to protect their land.
Our forefathers could fight many battles and defeat our neighbours because of their work culture.
It is because of the work culture that our environment is clean and we all are a healthy people" .
The RPF's press release further said that the people of Manipur were today losing the work culture mainly because their eyes are blurred by money and useless glittering commodities pumped in by India after Manipur was forcibly annexed.
Because of all these glitteraties and sugar-coated words, many of the people were giving up the work culture.
The people were numbed by the captive market and its glitters.
The farmers of this land were on the verge of starvation as they were reeling under severe impact of business sharks who were controlling the captive market.
"The monkeys are driving away the farm owners.
Those who lost work culture, mainly our youths are taking drugs and other intoxicants in search of peace of mind.
Crimes committed by substance users are causing more sufferings to our society which is already under siege," Leisemba said in the press release.
The RPF calls upon the people to give dignity and higher status to the workers of Manipur who are friends of the farms to make Manipur a prosperous land.
The RPF also appeals to the people to make "Workers in the work-shed and farmers in the field" the theme of this year's May Day, Leisemba said.
