Imphal, April 29 2010:
Stating that the significance of May Day should not be lost to us, Revolutionary People's Front (RPF) has called upon the people of Manipur to welcome May Day.
The proscribed outfit also proposed that "Workers in the work shed and farmers in the field" be the theme of this year's May Day.
In a statement, publicity secretary of RPF T Leisemba said every nook and corner of the world welcomes May Day (Labour Day) and the Day gives international community hopes and aspirations and its significance is not lost to us.
"While RPF too welcomes the Day we appeal to the beloved countrymen in Manipur where majority are the poor and working class to welcome the Day" .
Leisemba observed that taking into consideration the changing global scenario, we all should take a collective stand to cultivate work culture so as to make Manipur a strong and prosperous society.
Lack of work culture, courageous and industrious men lead to the fall of small society like ours.
Therefore the utmost task lying before all of us is to cultivate work culture, work hard and make Manipur an industrious society, he said, adding that if we go back to history we will find hard work was a tradition of Manipuri society.
However, this work culture tradition is gradually fading because of outside influence.
We all should be on a war footing to regain this lost tradition and habit.
Hard working labourers are the ones who are giving life to a society just as our blood vessels are giving life to human beings.
If the working class fails to perform their part, its consequence will be more devastating than natural calamities.
If the workers are hard working the impact of natural calamities can be reduced considerably, he said.
Leisemba further observed that hardworking men are healthy people and therefore they always turn out to be good soldiers and patriots when called for duty to protect their land.
Our forefathers could fight many battles and defeat our neighbours because of their work culture.
It is because of the work culture that our environment is clean and we all are a healthy people.
Stating that 'our people are today losing the work culture mainly because their eyes are blurred by money and useless glittering commodities pumped in by India after Manipur was forcibly annexed', Leisemba said that because of all these glitteratis and sugar coated words many of our people are giving up the work culture.
Our people are numbed by the captive market and its glitters.
Our farmers are on the verge of starvation as they are reeling under severe impact of business shirks who are controlling the captive market.
The monkeys are driving away the farm owners.
Those who lost work culture, mainly our youths are taking drugs and other intoxicants in search of peace of mind.
Crimes committed by substance users are causing more suffer to our society which is already under siege, Leisemba added.
The outfit has also called upon the people to give dignity and higher status to our workers who are friends of the farms to make Manipur a prosperous land.
