All Jiribam Working Journalists Union celebrates 23rd foundation day

The 23rd foundation day celebration of All Jiribam Working Journalists Union (AJWJU) was held today at the office of the union located at Babupara in Jiribam.
The programme was graced by Jiribam AC MLA, Md Achab Uddin; Jiribam SP A Ghanashyam Sharma; All Manipur Working Journalists Union (AMWJU) President Bijoy Kakchingtabam; AJWJU President Ng Bishwajit and Social Activist N Budhachandra as the presidium members.
Paying floral tributes to the departed members of AJWJU, observance of one minute silence in their honour and presenting simple gifts to the families of the departed members were the main events of today's programme.

Addressing the gathering, Jiribam AC MLA Md Achab Uddin stressed on the importance of media in the society and maintained that the journalists experience many hardships and inconveniences to keep the people informed of the actual happenings.
The journalists should uphold their principle by providing accurate and unbiased information to the masses, he added.
Extending best wishes to All Jiribam Working Journalists Union on the occasion of its 23rd foundation day, he expressed belief that the union will continue to work for the well-being of Jiribam.
The MLA also assured to extend help in acquiring the land document of the union and to construct toilet facilities in the office complex soon.
Speaking at the occasion, Jiribam SP A Ghanashyam Sharma informed that the Jiribam district police has been working earnestly to maintain law and order in the district amid the prevailing tense situation in the State.
Highlighting the role of media in a democratic society, he expressed concern over the rising trend of digital media, click based journalism, citizen journalism etc which is creating a big impact on mainstream or conventional media.
The rise of new media forms may lead in dissemination of baseless and unfounded news, he said.
AMWJU President Bijoy Kakchingtabam while speaking at the event, maintained that the journalists should abide by the ethics and principles of true journalism amid this crucial juncture.
He also appealed to the media fraternity to contribute sincerely in restoring peace and normalcy in the State.
Regarding the proposal of organising a sensitization or orientation programme of AJWJU members, Bijoy assured to take up the programme as a part of the yearlong golden jubilee celebration of AMWJU after due consultation.
