Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi and Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board, Bijoy Koijam met the Union Minister of Development for North Eastern Region (DoNER), BK Handique at 5.45 pm today at Vigyan Bhavan Annexe here.
During the meeting, Chief Minister Ibobi apprised the Union Minister of the progress of developmental works in different sectors funded by the Ministry of DoNER under NonLapsable Central Pool of Resources (NLCPR) in Manipur, in spite of various disturbances due to bad law and order situation.
The Chief Minister informed the Union Minister that most of the projects had been completed and commissioned, and the remaining projects were about to be completed.
Both the Chief Minister O Ibobi and the Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board, Bijoy Koijam urged the Union Minister of DoNER, BK Handique for timely release of the funds of the projects yet to be completed under the NLCPR before the rainy season.
The Union Minister of DoNER expressed his happiness on the progress of various works taken up in Manipur.
He gave his assurance that the Ministry would release all pending funds to the State soon and instructed the State Government to monitor the works constantly.
Mention may be made here that the broad objective of the Non-Lapsable Central Pool of Resources scheme is to ensure speedy development of infrastructure in the North Eastern Region by increasing the flow of budgetary financing for new infrastructure projects/schemes in the Region.
Both physical and social infrastructure sectors such as Irrigation and Flood Control, Power, Roads and Bridges, Education, Health, Water Supply and Sanitation � are considered for providing support under the Central Pool, with projects in physical infrastructure sector receiving priority.
During his three-day visit in the national capital, Chief Minister Ibobi has met Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Ghulam Nabi Azad on Tuesday, Union Minister of Water Resources, Pawan Kumar Bansal and Union Minister of Home Affairs, P Chidambaram on Wednesday on various issues for the welfare of the people of Manipur.
The Chief Minister and the Deputy Chairman of State Planning Board are leaving for Imphal tomorrow.
