Imphal, December 18 2023: In connection with an incident in which Pramot Singh is allegedly seen brandishing a gun in a video clip, Meitei Leepun has urged people against giving it a religious tinge without understanding the ground reality.

Giving its inputs on the incident, Meitei Leepun in a statement said, "At Khurai Telipati, there are two Mandirs-one belongs to the Telis, and the other belongs to the Meiteis, coexisting for ages.

Over time, a land dispute emerged, currently pending in Court.

Meanwhile, illegal encroachers around these two Mandirs were dumping garbage, using the area as a parking lot, and spoiling the sanctity of the Mandirs" .

It said the Meitei Leepun regularly cleans the area and has been warning all not to disturb the sanctity of the Mandirs.

"The Meitei Leepun, as a responsible body, always safeguards the important sites, as confirmed by both Pooja Committees.

"During a routine visit, we observed a Meitei, a Muslim, and a Bihari dumping rubbish [waste/garbage], building illegally, and using it as a parking lot.

Despite complaints to authorities like the police, DC, and local MLA, no action had been taken, causing distress.

The Meitei Leepun intervened to educate people," said Meitei Leepun.

Urging people not to give the incident a religious and communal tinge, Meitei Leepun said "some illegal immigrants who do not fulfil the qualifications of Indian citizenship and are not eligible under the 1961 NRC guidelines, are making misleading statements, attempting to create a communal narrative" .

Individuals who have not proven their Indian citizenship and have entered the Indian political system through corrupt practices lack the authority to involve themselves in Manipur affairs, it said.

"It is unfortunate that a non-Indian is tarnishing the image of Meitei Leepun and hindering the peaceful coexistence of the community.

Spreading false propaganda in the mass media is an act of creating misunderstanding among residents and an attempt to gain vested interests.

It is true that we punished the residents only to deter them from committing provocative acts," Meitei Leepun said, advising people who are unaware of the "internal issues" to stay away from the State's internal affairs.
