Imphal, March 04 2024: Unknown miscreants triggered a hand grenade explosion in a residential area of Samurou Awang Leikai under Wangoi police station and resorted to indiscriminate firing around 11.30 pm Sunday.

According to police sources, the miscreants first exploded a grenade in a sewage canal nearby houses of Salam Ibohanbi (55) and Salam Ramananda (71) before firing some rounds.

On receiving information about the incident, a team of Wangoi police station rushed to the spot and found another grenade suspended to have been lobbed by the same miscreants.

Mentioning that Salam Ibohanbi is owner of LG Workshop and Salam Ramananda a retired police officer, the sources conceded that identity of the perpetrators as well as reason for the attack is yet to be ascertained.

Wangoi police station has, however, registered a case and launched investigation, they informed.
