Imphal, April 21 2024:
The proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) led by Koireng said that it never took part in the election conducted in Manipur by India as the suppressive administration under Indian rule and the existing system are manoeuvred towards extinction of the Manipuri society.
Accordingly, the outfit has no trust in the present System and the people also should not believe the same, a statement of the Koireng-led UNLF said and reminded the people that this is one of the key decisions of the outfit.
The first phase of the MP election (Lok Sabha) on April 19 conducted by India, which is no more a democratic country, not only created chaos but also divided the people of Manipur which is well known to the people.
India's election on April 19 witnessed a new devilish system wherein armed men were utilised with muscle and money power to perform anti-democracy and anti-people activities like firing and brutal thrashing to grab votes.
This unwanted phenomenon might have occurred under the Indian system but it was not only the murder of democracy in the eye of the global people but also lowering of the people of Manipur into vote business and an act of killing instinct of the people, said the UNLF statement issued by publicity secretary M Shak-Hen said.
On the allegation by women of Irois-emba that UNLF was involved in election related violence in the area during voting on Friday, the outfit clarified that UNLF/MPA was unrelated with any election related violence including at Iroisemba.
The outfit also made clear to the people that election related violence like firing, threat, intimidation and others including the incident at Iroisemba were all part of the political culture of Indian democracy, which is in the hands of some wealthy people playing dirty politics.
Accordingly, the people of Manipur cannot have a true democracy and unable to survive as long as remaining under India's suppressive rule, the Koireng-led UNLF said in the statement and reminded people to understand the phenomenon.
As a result of joining India's political culture, the entire people of Manipur are suffering till date since May 3, 2023 after armed Kukis groomed by India waged war against the Meitei community.
At the time when challenges to the community's existence and integrity are to fight unitedly, division among the community is being created.
Even though women have been protecting village volunteers since the past 11 months without full sleep and food, there have been numerous reports of some armed men in the guise of 'masak khangdaba khutlai-paiba' directing their weapons towards the women.
All these are result of our people joining the electoral process of Indian politics, which is unconnected with our lifestyle, the statement said.
The UNLF further reminded the people that we could have and exercise true democratic rights only when Manipur stands on its own independently and without subjugation of any country.
Believing in democracy being adopted by countries across the globe, UNLF proposed plebiscite as per the wishes of the people to resolve Manipur-India conflict but it was India which did not honoured the proposal, the statement said.
While appealing to the people not to succumb to the political culture of India characterised by money and muscle power but remain vigilant against state administrators who are hand-in-glove with Indian leaders, the UNLF stressed that the people put more efforts and thoughts on how to fight the existing challenges posed to the integrity and existence of Manipur.
