IED blast destroys shop in Jiribam village, no casualty

Jiribam, March 30 2024:
An IED laid by unidentified armed miscreants at a grocery cum hardware shop in Lamtai Khunou also known as Durgapur village under Borobekra sub-division in Jiribam district exploded on March 28 at about 2.15 am.
According to a police source, explosion of the IED destroyed the grocery cum hardware shop owned by one Haobam Mani-kumar of Lalong Part-1 (Borbil), Cachar, Assam but presently residing in Lamtai Khunou, Jiribam.
The blast destroyed rear portion of the shop completely but no one was injured.
Meanwhile, Jiri Development Organisation (JDO), Jiri Ima Meira Paibi Apunba Lup (JIMPAL), United Jiri Youth League (UJYL) and Jiri Apunba Khunai Chaokhat Lup (JAKCL) strongly condemned the blast and convened a meeting on March 28 morning.
Later, a rally and a sit-in-protest were held at different places under Borobekra sub-division on March 28 and 29 in condemnation of the blast.
On the other hand, four civil society organisations of Jiribam imposed a 24 -hour shutdown in Jiribam district from 6am Saturday in protest against the blast.
The shutdown affected normal life in the district on Saturday.
On the other hand, Federation of Civil Society Organisation Manipur (FOCS) has condemned the blast in Lamtai Khunou and termed it as an attempt to disrupt peaceful co-existence among different communities in the area.
The organisation also demanded the district administration and state home department to identify culprits and booked them.
