Thoubal, February 05 2024:
The internally displaced persons (IDPs) from Moreh, who are currently staying in various relief camps, have warned of launching counter blockade along Imphal-Moreh road from February 9 if the Tengnoupal district village volunteers do not stop their "activities" to drive away the state forces deployed in Moreh by February 8 .
In a press meet convened by IDPs from Moreh at Wangjing Kodompokpi sports complex op Monday, Thangjam Ibungo of Moreh Ward no.7, who spoke on behalf of the other IDPs, pointed out that Moreh used to be inhabited by different communities.
The prevailing conflict has not only disturbed peace in the border town but also led to many deaths, as a result of which, the state forces were deployed in Moreh to maintain law and order.
While the state forces are performing their duties sincerely, the Tengnoupal district village volunteers have placed a ban on all shops in border town from selling any item including food and water to the state forces, which is highly condemnable and inhumane.
As such, Ibungo demanded the Tengnoupal district village volunteers to withdraw their ban and other activities against the state forces by February 8, failing which the IDPs from Moreh along with CSOs will not only impose a counter blockade on Imphal-Moreh road but will also launch various forms of agitations on February 9.On the other hand, Meetei Community Joint Co-Ordination Committee Waithou to Haokha & Thoubal Khunou, issued a press release on Monday, demanding withdrawal of the ban on state forces deployed in Moreh town.
As per the release, the Joint Co-Ordinating Committee along with its Women Wing strongly condemned the ban on shops in Moreh by Kuki volunteers against selling any items including food and water to the state forces deployed in the border town.
The state forces are part of the government administration meant to control and maintain security without bias towards any community or group.
Anyone who has committed a crime deserves to be punished as per the law of the land, reasoned the committee.
The release continued that the whole world now knows who had first lit the fire of the conflict and who burnt down Meetei houses in Churachandpur.
Kuki narco-terrorists have been Committing atrocities upon the Meetei people, not to mention of the blatant disrespect and desecration of dead bodies.
The release cautioned that the ban should be withdrawn by February 7, failing which all roads in Manipur including the road to Moreh along which essential items and foods meant for Kukis are being transported will be completely halted from February 8 onwards.
