AITA Championship Series U-18 begins

AITA Championship Series U-18 (National Ranking Tournament) got underway today at IDTA Complex.
The semi-final line up of girls singles competition of the championship organised by Imphal District Tennis Association (IDTA) under the aegis of Manipur Tennis Association was completed on the opening day.
Seeded player, Meenakshi Lavakar of Karnataka cruised into the semi-finals beating Roria Ningthoujam 6-0, 6-0 today in the quarter final round and will meet Nandini who outlasted Laishram Linda 6-2, 6-4 in another quarter final clash today.
Thoibi Yumnam also made it to the semis after securing an easy 6-1, 6-1 win over Pooja Saikhom earlier.
Another seeded player, Kaatyayini Vashishth from Assam meanwhile sealed the last semi-final berth with a 6-1, 6-1 win against Changammayum Leithoi today in a quarter final match.
Leithoi had reached the quarter final of the 9-player competition beating Chahat of Assam 6-3, 6-3 in the morning.
In the meantime, Heisnam Shanker and Sagolshem Bhicky pair will be playing against the Manipur-Assam duo, Thongbam Rajiv and Almas Ebon Ahamed in the title clash.
Shanker and Bhicky reached the final with a 6-1, 6-0 thumping of Thiyam Joshua and Maibam Lanchenba today while Rajiv and Almas carved out a 6-2, 6-0 win over Thokchom Devson and Akshay Rajesh Kamble in another semi-final clash.
The semi-final line up of the U-18 boys singles competition also completed with seeded players Shanker Heisnam and Bhicky Sagolshem making the cut.
Shanker reached the semis beating Rajiv Thongbam 6-2, 6-2 today.
Almas also outlasted Maibam Lanchenba 6-2, 6-0 in another court to set up a semi-final date with Shanker.
Manipur's Joshua Thiyam later outlasted Devson Thokchom 6-1, 6-1 to make it to the last four stage of the 8 player competition.
He will meet Bhicky who secured an easy 6-0, 6-0 win over Akshay Rajesh Kamble.
