Locals object to Mega Food Park

A stand off occurred between police and locals of 44-Yaithibi Loukol on Monday morning after the latter objected to establishment of a Mega Food Park in the area.
The scuffle broke out around 8am when the contractor assigned for the project came with a heavy machinery (JCB) and tractor to level the area.
On hearing news of the stand-off, a large number of Thoubal District Police personnel arrived at the scene and attempted to drive away the crowd.
However, the locals especially the womenfolk fiercely resisted, thereby preventing any work from being done on Monday.
Speaking to newspersons regarding the scuffle, one Bina conveyed that the government took over 44-Yaithibi Loukol as the site for constructing a Sports University amidst disagreement amongst the locals.
However, the site for the university was shifted to another place and as such, the locals expressed their wish not to see any other structural projects but to continue fanning in the area, while also offering to return the money given as land compensation.
As the government continued to ignore the demands of the locals, the matter was taken up in the court, with hearing of the case scheduled for March 30.Thus, until the matter is heard in the court, no one is permitted to carry out any work in the area, she stated.
