Imphal, March 14 2022:
Ayekpam Deben, general secretary, BJP Kshetrigao Mandal, has spoken out against the alleged acts of vandalism, stone pelting, threats, gun fire and other such unwanted acts carried out on the workers and supporters of BJP by NPP workers at Kshetrigao AC under the guise of celebrating the latter's election win.
This statement was made by the general secretary during a press conference held at the office of BJP Kshetrigao Mandal this afternoon.
Speaking to media persons, A Deben said that the BJP has no problem with the NPP celebrating their win as it is natural and customary.
However, targeting BJP workers with excessive violence under the pretext of celebrating their victory is condemnable, he added.
A Deben maintained that these acts of violence had been going on since the night of March 10 when election results were announced.
In the afternoon of March 11, a large convoy of Kshetrigao AC MLA elect Sheikh Noorul Hassan and his supporters travelled across the AC in celebration of their victory wherein his supporters proceeded to shout verbal abuses at residences where BJP flags had been hoisted, he alleged.
During the night-time, they resorted to gun fire to harass the BJP workers, he further asserted.
A Deben also accused the NPP of creating an atmosphere of fear and violence in Kshetrigao AC where previously, people of different communities used to live in peace and harmony.
He also accused a Pradhan of being involved in these questionable acts of violence.
Claiming that there is no end in sight with regards to these acts of violence, A Deben shared that unknown miscreants had fired shots at a BJP supporter's house just last night.
As such, A Deben made an appeal to the relevant authorities to ensure that such unwanted incidents do occur in the future and that the perpetrators involved in such past transgressions are brought to justice and given the appropriate punishment.
It may be noted that BJP Kshetrigao Mandal also inspected the houses of three BJP supporters that had suffered damages due to stone pelting and gun fire.
