'Road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Campaign' organised at MU

Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, Manipur University on Wednesday organised 'Road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Campaign' under the Union Education Ministry.
In his welcome address, Dr Laishram Santosh Singh, convenor Fit India Campaign Committee and Fit India Club, explained that the 'Road to Tokyo 2020 Olympic Campaign' was especially organised to support, encourage and cheer the Indian contingent and, specially, five athletes from the state, adding "such cheering campaign will certainly encourage our athletes to develop a strong spirit of competition and to win medals for India".
After chief guest MLA Th Radheshyam Singh cut the ribbon of the selfie point with a 'I#Cheer4India' slogan, all dignitaries, invitees and faculty members, staff and students of Manipur University cheered the Indian contingent by standing at the selfie point.
Th Radheshyam Singh, who is also the president of Manipur Olympic Association (MOA), while asking the gathering to give a big round of applause to the Indian Olympic team, stated that the event was organised to unite the world through competition.
He also opined that competition in sports between countries is important for athlete's development and suggested a research by Department of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, Manipur University to find out the areas where maximum athletes from the state can represent India in the Olympic Games in future.
Manipur University vice-chancellor (i/c) Prof S Sanatombi Singha, expressed her happiness to see athletes from Manipur - MC Mary Kom (boxing), Sushila Likmabam (judo), Saikhom Mirabai (weightlifting), Pukhrambam Sushila Chanu and Shanglakpam Nilakanta Sharma (hockey) - are representing the country in the Tokyo Olympic 2020.She also extended her sincere gratitude to chief minister N Biren Singh and prime minister Narendra Modi for encouraging and supporting the athletes of the country by announcing cash awards to those athletes who win medals in the Olympic Games.
The VC wished all the athletes grand success.
Ksh Thoiba Singh, Olympian (hockey - Seoul Olympic, South Korea, 1988), Dr L Bishwanath Sharma, chairman Fit India Club & Dean, Students' Welfare, Manipur University and Prof W Chandbabu Singh, registrar Manipur University attended the event as guest of honours.
W Ranjan Singh, Indian archery coach and N Ibungochoubi Singh, former president MMTA, Imphal were also present as invitees.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr L Thambal Singh, assistant professor, Department of PESS Manipur University, said Fit India Campaign Committee & Fit India Club (MU) in a press release.
