Police verification must for buyers in land deals

Imphal, July 07 2021:
Deputy secretary (Revenue) of Revenue Department has issued an office memorandum notifying removal of restrictions with regard to registration for sale, purchase and gifting of property/land with addition of certain conditions, one of which include police verification of the buyer and the source of the money used for purchasing the property.
As per the memorandum, the temporary restriction placed on selling, buying and gifting of land in the state has been relaxed.
However, anyone buying or registering a property should be a permanent resident of Manipur and must fulfill certain conditions.
Anyone planning to register a properly should produce a permanent residency certificate issued by the district magistrate concerned and should have undergone police verification through the district magistrate.
The source of the money used to purchase the property and any criminal record should be produced beforehand.
The said prerequisites must be confirmed by a cabinet sub-committee headed by the revenue minister as the chairperson with the law and agriculture ministers as members.
Furthermore, anyone planning to gift-deed a property to a family member, their registration will be approved without the conditions mentioned above.
This will be done in accordance to the provisions given under Manipur Land and Revenue and Land Reform Act, 1960, the memorandum stated.
