Imphal, June 26 2014:
Disturbed by the violence that broke out between Makhan villages and Maram Khullen Circle villages on June 24 last arising out of land dispute, United Naga Council (UNC) has expressed shock over the incident that resulted in injuries and damage of houses.
In a statement of its publicity wing made available to the media today, UNC said the two parties have been living together peacefully as neighbours since many years back.
'We condemn any form of violence because it silences the voice of reason within society and within oneself', it said, while appealing to both the parties to allow good sense to prevail and bring amicable settlement of the dispute through the customary laws.
The civil society body, which upholds the unity and oneness of the people, appeals to all concern to refrain from violence, use of weapons and indulging in self inflictions which reduces our hopes and aspirations as a people, the statement added.
