Indefinite strike called in Thoubal District

Imphal, June 26 2014:
With the authorities concerned allegedly failing to take up necessary action against those police personnel posted at Khongjom out-post who were involved in assaulting Md Ali Hashan (18), a B.Sc.second year student of Maharaj Buddhachandra College, All Manipur Muslim Students' Organization (AMMSO) has imposed an indefinite general strike in Thoubal district with effect from 5 am of June 27 .
Announcing this during a press meet attended by representatives of AMMACOC, AMMASU, UMMWDO, MSMY, Khekman Amakcham Modern Youth Association and United Youth Club, Nungei at its office at Hatta Minuthong here today, Md Farid Khan, convener of AMMSO, said that a memorandum was already submitted to Chief Minister, Home Minister and DGP urging them to initiate appropriate action against the police personnel involved in the assault but no positive step has been taken up so far which has compelled the organisation to come up with the decision of imposing an indefinite strike in THoubal district.
In the memorandum, the organisation has also demanded the Police Department to bear medical expenses for Md Ali Hashan, who is undergoing treatment at SHIJA Hospital, he reminded.
Informing that exam going students, media and essential services will be exempted from the purview of the strike, Md Farid Khan appealed to the public to extend support to the strike and cautioned that any untoward incident arising during the course of the general strike should be the sole responsibility of the government.
