Many observe International Day against Drug Abuse

The International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was observed today at Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen under the aegis of AMADA, NCB and NAB.
The observance was marked by a public rally cum meeting where the speakers urged the State Government to appoint a separate Minister for combating drug abuse and trafficking.
They also expressed serious concerned over extensive cultivation of poppy in interior areas of the State's hill districts.
The rally which carried the message of keeping oneself away from intoxicating drugs was flagged off from Iboyaima Shumang Leela Shanglen by MLAs RK Anand and N Biren.
The rally terminated at the starting point which was followed by a public meeting.
The meeting was attended by Home Minister Gaikhangam as chief guest and AMADA president M Padmani Leima as president.
Speaking at the gathering, Gaikhangam stated that the problem of drug abuse is a social issue.
It is also a socio-health problem.
Rather than shirking responsibilities, the Government and the civil society should go hand in hand to combat the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking.
During the function, AMADA's special award for individuals/groups working against drug abuse was presented to the Sanaleipak Nachom Artistes for their play Mangluraba Lan.
The International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking was also observed at Manipur Press Club under the aegis of the Social Awareness Service Organisation (SASO).
District Social Welfare Office, Churachandpur in collaboration with FINGODAP observed the day at Bungmual while Lifeline Foundation observed the day within their office premises.
