With the objective of keeping the paddy field green, that remain generally idle after harvesting season, All Manipur Integrative Farmers' Organisation (AMIFO) is all set to multiply the production of the potatoes cultivated by it as Rabi crop over an area of four hectares.
From the saplings collected, the organisation is now targeting to produce 2,50,000 kgs of potatoes, AMIFO president L Inao Singh has stated.
Interacting with media-persons during the inspection tour of the fields were potatoes are being cultivated by AMIFO in four different places in collaboration with the farmers of the area, Inao said that the Organisation has been encouraging farmers in cultivation of season crops with the main objective of bringing about self sufficiency in food production.
The inspection tour covered the Kiyamgei Sajou Macha Loukon, Bashikhong Kongba Irong, Bashikhong Torban and Pangei Yangdong where potato cultivation is in progress with the assistance of the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments.
In these four places, the Organisation has not only been able to provide jobs to 60 persons for 60 days, it has also been targeting to increase the potato production from 1,50,000 kgs to 2,50,000, Inao said.
