Citing the interim order of the Gauhati High Court which specifically laid down that the State Government should let the people offer tributes and prayers freely to the nine people who died on April 13, 1982, the Families' Committee for Observation of 13 April has appealed to all the people of the State to attend the "April 13 Martyrs' Day" observation and offer tributes to the martyrs at Cheiraoching memorial tomb, Chingmeirong without any fear.
Briefing media persons at Manipur Press Club here today, convener of the Families' Committee for Observation of 13 April, Thokchom Ranjit said that the Gauhati High Court issued an interim order on April 8 directing the State Government not to impose any restriction or cause harassment to the people coming to the Cheiraoching memorial tomb to pay tributes to the departed souls.
The Committee recalled that nine persons were killed on April 13, 1982 by army personnel.
They were Chaoban alias Rajendra of Kwakeithel Moirangpurel, Moirangthem Premkumar alias Wangba of Tera Bazar, Thoudam Kunjabihari of Nameirakpam Leikai, Thoudam Lokendra alias Amujao of Nameirakpam Leikai, Naorem Prem alias Rajen of Naorem Leikai, RK Khoromba of Moreh, Maibam Paka of Heirok Part II, Sorokhaibam Kameshwar alias Kanta of Heibongpokpi and Langpoklakpam Dilip of Keishampat Leimajam Leikai.
