Ukhrul, April 10:
Apprehension struck the minds of people in Ukhrul district with the lone bank, United Bank of India (UBI) unable to withdraw a cheque of Rs 1,95,600 that is meant for implementing various schemes like IAY, SGRY etc in the district.
The matter came to light when UBI failed to transact the cheque amounting to Rs 1,95,600 to one of its main customers, District Rural Department Agency (DRDA) citing unavailability of money in the bank to be the main pitfall.
Speaking to our correspondent, officials of DRDA Ukhrul today informed that while two separate cheques of Rs 1,95,600 and Rs 10,000 were submitted for withdrawal, the bank accepted only the later saying there is no such big amount of money in the bank.
The inability and incompetency of the bank has irritated especially those beneficiaries under IAY and SGRY who came along way from far flung villages to avail the schemes, they said.
Meanwhile the masses in the district have also raised their doubts about the implementation of various schemes involving crores of Rupees under NREGS which was recently launched at the district headquarter, when the lone financial institution of Ukhrul district, UBI could not even release a cheque of less than Rs 2 lacs.
