Senapati, September 25 2015 :
A statement issued by the Surface Transport Hills Area Driver's Welfare Union (STHADWU) has expressed deep resentment over the repeated collection of gate pass fees at different police gates located along National Highway 2 .
Despite the State Government's assurance to close down all unauthorized police gates to control illegal collection of taxes from truck drivers plying along the NH-2, necessary steps have not been taken up to root out these stops along the National Highways.
The drivers, the union claimed, are often harassed and stopped for collection of taxes from Mao police gate till Imphal including Koirengei stretch where police and MRs continue to collect fees for unknown reasons.
