Senapati, September 25 2015 :
After numerous rounds of talks and negotiation over the site for the construction of the proposed Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) building and land compensation rates, a deal has been reached between Deputy Commissioner Jacintha Lazarus, IAS and the land committee of Mayangkhang Ningthoupham today, our correspondent reports.
The upcoming Indian Institute of Information and Technology (IIIT) building at Mayangkhang Ningthoupham, near the iconic General Thangal ecological park, will be the first IIIT building in North East India.
Over Rs 200 crore have been set aside for the construction of the main IIIT administrative buildings, faculty blocks, Institute buildings, surrounding walls and quarters.
Meanwhile, the Mayangkhang Ningthoupham Land Committee members have expressed gratification over the deal stating that it will benefit the entire North East students especially Senapati district students in the future.
The land committee, before reaching the final deal had to negotiate with as many as 50 land owners for the entire proposed site measuring some 150 acres.
"Such sacrifices by the land owners will not be in vain as the IIIT will benefit the locals and the district in many ways", the committee stated.
The compensation rate for the affected land owners has not been disclosed as yet.
Coupled by scenic view of the Mayangkhang hillocks on both side and the presence of General Thangal Ecological Park, the proposed site is a plain area measuring about 150 acres.
Once completed, the new IIIT will be backed by a 10/33 MVA sub-power station adjacent to the institute, a Central school and numerous other facilities.
Presently, the area has an FCI godown and an ecological park which is also likely to become a major tourism site with necessary funds in the process.
Located along National Highway 2 route, the site is a few meters away from Mayangkhang Ningthoupham village under Kangpokpi sub-division and about 8 kms away from Senapati DHqs.
The temporary IIIT is constructed at Mantripukhri, Imphal.
