CorCom pays homage to Hijam Irabot

Imphal, September 25 2015 :
CorCom on Friday saluted and paid homage to pioneer Hijam Irabot on the occasion of his 64th death anniversary stating that the leader laid the foundation of revolutionary movement in Kangleipak (Manipur).
Communist leader of Manipur, Irabot died due to illness on September 26, 1951 in Burma's Tangbo-Sedo village.
CorCom media coordinator Ksh Yoheiba in a statement said Irabot was a precious personage of Manipur who led a farmers' uprising against the repressive rule of the king under British protection.
He defiantly stood against the religious policy of 'amang-aseng' (purity and pollution) in the society and that Irabot was the precursor of the historic Second Nupi Lal, CorCom said.
CorCom recalled that Irabot had to go underground after the Pungdongbam incident of September 21, 1948 .
CorCom once again salutes and pays homage to Irabot on the occasion of his 64th death anniversary on September 26 and 119th birth anniversary which falls on September 30, the statement further said.
