Arson bid at oil pump foiled

Imphal, December 23, 2011:
Police today foiled the attempt of an angry mob to set fire an oil pump at Khabeisoi at around 12.30 pm.
Alleging discrimination in distribution of fuel at the oil pump, people who were standing in queue since early morning unable to get fuel, tried to set the oil pump on fire.
Timely arrival of the police controlled the situation from getting out of hand.
According to police, there was an open sale of fuel in the oil pump.
As sufficient quantity of fuel have been provided to all the vehicles initially, only around 130 litres were left when a large number of two-wheelers as well as four-wheelers rushed in.
When the personnel manning the oil pump announced that there is not much fuel left in the stock, the people standing in the queue attempted to set the oil pump on fire.
A police team from Lamlai Police station arrived immediately to control the situation.
