The State government has decided to provide full security to enhance the work progress of the railway line construction from Jiribam to Tupul although the United Naga
Council (UNC) has banned the construction of the railway line reacting against the stand of Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to safeguard the territorial boundary of
Manipur.
This was decided at a meeting held at the Chief Minister Bungalow's conference hall where the GOC Assam Rifles, DGP Manipur and Chief Secretary among other
top officials were present.
Addressing media persons, SPF spokesperson, Minister N Biren said that following undue interference from the UNC, four companies of CRPF
have been deployed in the construction area.
A combined force of the state police and Assam rifles will also be sent shortly so that no disturbances are experienced by
the workers in carrying out their work.
He further stated that since the disturbance caused to the construction work for railway lines carried out mostly in areas in
and around Noney and Khongshang, security arrangements have also beefed up in these areas.
It may be mentioned here that during his recent visit to Imphal, Prime
Minister assured the people of Manipur that construction of the railway lines from Jiribam to Tupul will be completed by 2014 and from Tupul to Imphal by 2016.The
UNC, reacting against the assurance has banned the construction of railway lines from December 16.They even met the Union Home Minister in the regard.
