Discussion on necessary Penal actions for paid news

Imphal, December 23, 2011:
The second sitting of the State level Media Certificate and Monitoring Committee was held today in the office of the Chief Electoral Officer, Secretariat where
necessary penal actions to be taken against those news firms engaging in paid news were minutely discussed.
The meeting was presided by PC Lawmkunga, CEO.
The
Chairperson of the committee, A Tombikanta, who is also the Officer-in-charge, Systematic Voter Education and Electoral Participation was also present.
The meeting
discussed minutely on the ways and means to track paid news coming out in local newspapers and television network.
If in case paid news comes out in certain newspapers
and television networks, what sort of action should be taken up was also discussed in the meeting.
The meeting further discussed the steps to be taken up for proper
compliance to the guidelines and rules of Representation of People's Act of the Election Commission of India.
The views and suggestions of the participating Committee
members were also noted.
The meeting was also attended by DEO, Imphal West, N Ashokumar, Correspondent, AIR, Imphal, A Ibomcha, News editor DDK, Imphal, N Nando, Media
and Communication Officer, PIB, Imphal, Premlata Loitam and Field Executive, DAVP, Manipur Gin Gangte.
