AR organises Tree Plantation Drive

Imphal, May 21 2021:
44 Assam Rifles of 22 Sector organised a plantation drive 'Van Mitra Abhiyan' at Tamenglong town and various other parts of the district on Friday.
According to a release of PIB (Defence) Imphal, the unit kick started the "Van Mitra Abhiyan' by planting a sapling at Akhui village.
The abhiyan was aimed at revisiting last year's planted saplings to ascertain their growth.
Tlie event witnessed personnel of the unit planting 3100 fresh saplings.
One of the objectives of the drive was to spread awareness among locals and troops about importance of trees and also of the secondary advantages acquired like prevention of soil erosion and landslides.
The saplings included local varieties like parkia (bitter bean), palm, orange, tamarind, lemon, guava and jackfruit, the release stated.
It is also informed that Tamenglong Battalion commandant stressed on the ownership of the saplings planted by each individual.
