MASLSA organises online induction / sensitization program

A one-day online induction cum sensitization program for the newly inducted panel lawyers of Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA) was held today through JITSI Meet Platform.
The online programme was organized by Manipur State Legal Services Authority.
Ojesh Mutum, Member Secretary, of MASLSA gave the welcome speech of the programme and stated that the aim of the induction cum sensitization program is to enhance the quality and visibility of legal aid institution and also to appropriately respond the legal needs of the people.
Further, Ch Momon Singh, Advocate and Member, MASLSA spoke on "Legal Services Authority Act, 1987 & the scheme thereunder" and gave an insight of the journey of the legal services in India, starting as legal aid in court to legal services to access justice equally by all including the most vulnerable sections of the society.
Sorokhaibam Sadananda, Deputy Member Secretary, MASLSA spoke on the topic "Rights of a person before and after arrest" with special emphasis on NALSA "Early Access to Justice at Pre-arrest, arrest and remand stage scheme.
Important judgements of the Supreme Court pertaining to curbing illegal arrests were discussed, the most prominent amongst them being Arnesh Kumar vs State of Bihar.
The rights of a person to legal representation even before formal arrest was also emphasized upon.
The framework of the NALSA's Scheme was also elaborated.
The online programme was attended by 22 newly inducted panel lawyers of MASLSA and was also streamed live on official facebook page of MASLSA for wider outreach and coverage.
