Accused groom-to-be sent to judicial custody, brother arrested

The Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal today remanded Md Saruk Khan (26) to judicial custody till June 4 in connection with the dead of his fiancee, Ruhani at his residence at Santhel Mamang Leikai on May 11 .
The Court also remanded Saruk Khan's elder brother Md Ibomcha @ Abdul Salam who was arrested yesterday by a team of Mayang Imphal Police Station for his alleged involvement in disturbing the evidence of the case, to 4-day police custody till May 24 .
Both the accused persons were produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Thoubal along with the prayer for judicial custody and police custody remand respectively.
The IO of the case through APP submitted that accused fianc� Md Saruk Khan disclosed that he harassed victim (Ruhani) which led to kill herself during the police custody interrogation.
Saruk had also disclosed that he and Ruhani got acquainted on January 8 at the house of one of his friends and continued their love affair after ascertaining that the girl had broken up with her previous boyfriend and was single, the IO submitted.
On January 20 they eloped and got married the same day by performing Nikah according to their customary law after which they started living as husband and wife at his father's old house.
The victim was found pregnant in the last week of February and argument ensued with Saruk Khan questioning about the previous boyfriend and her pregnancy, the IO submitted.
He had also disclosed that he had asked his mother-in-law to take back her daughter as he started hating her wife even though they were married through Nikah, the IO submitted.
It was further revealed that on May 11 at around 3 am, the victim was found hanging inside his house and before police notice about the incident he along with his elder brother, Md Ibomcha and his sister-in-law, Sariful (29) took down the dead body and kept on the bed.
They all fled away after the scene and he hid at his cousin's house in order to escape police arrest, the IO continued.
During the course of investigation it has been revealed that Saruk Khan had tortured the victim mentally and abetted her to kill herself and also destroyed evidence along with family members, the IO submitted while praying the Court to grant judicial custody remand of the accused.
The IO also submitted that arrested elder Md Ibomcha is also highly required to be interrogated in depth in order to ascertain the actual fact of the crime and prayed the Court to grant four-day police custody remand.
The Court on perusal of the case record, material available and hearing the submission of IO, remanded accused Md Saruk Khan to judicial custody till June 4 and Md Ibomcha to police custody remand till May 24 .
