Imphal, September 21 2010:
The Jiri river which demarcates the border between Manipur and Assam was flowing near danger level because of incessant rains in the past few days, reports from Jiribam sub-divisional headquarters said today.
Reports from Jiribam, about 222 km west of here, said the water level was slowly increasing because of heavy rains and it may touch the danger level if the rains continued in the next two days.
Jiri river demarcates portion of the border of the two states before it merges with mighty Barak river which originates from Manipur and flows through Cachar district of Assam, reports said.
