Imphal, September 21 2010:
Despite the global concern over climate change and its impact on human society, the ruling Government has not paid any serious attention in this regard, Opposition MLA O Joy has alleged.
Laying the foundation stone of a Shanglen of Koubru Loyalakpa to be constructed at Narankonjil in Langthabal Assembly Constituency yesterday, O Joy observed that with temperature rising day by day, maintaining ecological balance to combat the debilitating impact of climate change has become the responsibility of each and every member of the society.
But its unfortunate that the present Government has not paid much attention in this regard.
Speaking as chief guest of the function, O Joy lamented that though a committee of the Assembly has been set up to arrest the impact of climate change in Manipur, the committee has not yet started functioning properly.
Expressing happiness over the location of Manipur University in Langthabal area, O Joy informed that construction work on the memorial of Maharaj Gambhir Singh is underway and efforts are on to install a statue of Maharaj Narsingh.
Dredging of Chandranadi too has been resumed and every possible fforts would be made to ensure completion of the work successfully, O Joy said, adding that development of Leishang Hiden has also been started though there are still some disturbances.
O Joy appealed to all concerned not to create any sort of disturbances in developmental works.
He also informed that construction of a community hall at Chajing Mamang Leikai has been started and laying of pipeline for water supply in and around Naran Konjil has been completed.
Plans are also afoot for construction of rest shed for the public on the southern side of Manipur University.
