Imphal, September 21 2010:
Two top leaders of proscribed United National Liberation Front (UNLF) including its deputy secretary, who were arrested in Guwahati recently, were brought back here by a team of state police today.
UNLF deputy secretary Ningombam Dilip @ Choaba @ Ibomcha @ Ranjit @ Mani (46) son of Chaoba of Singjamei Waikhom Leikai and Lourembam Jateshwor @ Khalemba (37) son of late Gulamjat of Moirangkampu were brought back by the police team in connection with pending cases against them registered with police stations in the state related with activities of the outfit, a police officer said.
Dilip is a Lt Col of the UNLF while Khalemba, is a self styled captain.
They were apprehended by a combined team of Manipur police, Assam Police and Central security force on September 8 from their hideout in Guwahati where they had been camping for the last two months.
It may be recalled here that 10 members of the banned outfit UNLF including some hardcore leaders were arrested from Guwahati recently.
All of them had been brought back to Imphal and five of them had been sent to judicial custody under NSA while some of them were to be taken back to Guwahati to face cases filed against them by Assam Police.
