A micro-hydel project constructed under the sponsorship of Manipur Science and Technology Council (MASTEC) was inaugurated by Principal Secretary (Power) LP Gonmei at Dailong village in Tamenglong district yesterday.
Principal Secretary (Power) LP Gonmei was the chief guest of the inaugural function which was also attended by Commissioner of Science and Technology H Ibomcha as president and Deputy Commissioner of Tamenglong district K Panmei as guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Gonmei observed that villagers of Dailong are likely to have a project in their village which is yet to be implemented in other parts of the State.
So, the power to be generated by the project should be utilised judiciously and considered the power project as their own property.
Stating that Dailong village has been blessed by mother Nature with various natural resources, he hoped that commissioning of the power project would help in bringing about developmental changes in the life of its people.
In his address as guest of honour of the function, K Panmei observed every individual in the society should under their duties and responsibility as the citizens of Manipur and the country.
So, instead of just demanding for our rights, we should also know our corresponding duties and responsibility.
Construction work on the micro-hydel project began around 10 years back but the progress of the work has been delayed due to various reasons.
The project has the capacity of generating 100 kilowatt of power and is expected to benefit around 300 households in Dailong village.
