Imphal, July 28:
Three Assam Rifles personnel were killed when well armed UGs ambushed them at Namthilok four Kms west of Litan PS this morning at around 7.20.The UNLF has claimed responsibility for the attack and informed that its cadres decamped with one INSAS rifles with 4 filled magazines and one LMG with 4 filled magazines.
The attack was part of the offensive launched against the Indian army, added the outfit.
According to reports, the AR personnel were attacked with bombs and sophisticated arms by the UGs while on patrol in the Namthilok Area.
The deceased AR personnel belonged to the 19 Assam Rifles posted at Litan.
The deceased personnel have been identified as Rajesh and Mohanlal from Jammu Kashmir and Pranath Sinha from Patna, added the source.
Following the incident all vehicles coming from Imphal were stopped at Yaingangpokpi and forced to return by the AR personnel.
