Imphal, July 28:
Taking the present situation of Manipur into consideration, where New Delhi and the various armed opposition groups of Manipur are locked in a tussle over the status of Manipur, the United Committee Manipur has today stated that the only way out is a political solution and this can be achieved by holding a referendum.
In a statement issued to the press today, UCM said that it is only the common people who suffer in the fight between the armed opposition groups and the Indian Govt and the time has come to seek a political solution, which is a referendum.
Stating that the UNO has also endorsed holding referendum, UCM cited the example of East Timor which separated from Indonesia after a referendum and Quebec, which is still with Canada as the majority voted in favor of Canada in the three referendums held.
It is only when a political solution is worked will the people of Manipur be able to lead a dignified life and join the race of development, said the statement.
The Committee has also appealed to all to participate in the rally scheduled to be held tomorrow to demand the revocation of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from Manipur.
