Though 18 days have passed since the devastating landslides and mudslides hit the people of Phikomi in Mao, uprooting 90 houses and rendering many homeless, no substantial relief material have been provided by the State Govt till date.
This was conveyed by the chairman of the Relief Committee, N Neli to the media during the relief material provided by the All Manipur Petrol Dealers' Association to the affected people today.
Elaborating, the chairman said that the people are yet to receive the Rs 1 lakh promised by Chief Minister O Ibobi as aid to the affected people.
So far the people have received 426 bags of rice, each weighing 60 kgs each, 20 litres of petrol and 215 litres of diesel from the Govt through the SDO, Mao-Maram.
However on the brighter side, the chairman said that numerous civil societies of Manipur and Nagaland have contributed generously to the affected people and elaborated that so far the Relief Committee has received Rs 11 lakhs in cash.
Till date the Relief Committee has distributed Rs 3000 each to the families whose houses have been destroyed in the landslides besides providing utensils, clothes and other items, said Neli.
Pouring out the grievances of the people, the chairman said that the Dc of Senapati did not turn up to over see the situation till July 14, though the landslides had started affecting the people from July 10.GREF personnel could be seen on round the clock duty trying to clear the landslide and 30 oil tankers managed to pass through the affected area and reach Imphal today.
However if the rain comes again, the situation will not improve much.
The All Manipur Petroleum Dealers' Association today contributed a sum of Rs 20,000 to the people.
