Members of the Pandav Maligaon Manipuri Association Guwahati -12 in a meeting held on July 18 at Pandu have strongly condemned brutal murder of Th Manorama by personnel of 17 Assam Rifles.
Terming the killing as barbaric and inhuman, the association appealed to the Manipur Govt to lift the Armed Forces Special Powers Act from the State and help the people to live peacefully without any fear.
The members also observed a two minute silence as a mark of respect to the departed soul.
Lamlai Block Congress Committee while expressing its unstinted support to the growing demand for AFSPA has also informed that the committee would also pressurize the Chief Minister on the matter.
Khwairamband Nupi Lup Keithel Sinpham Amadi Saktam Kanba Lup have also denounced the extra judicial death of Thangjam Manorama.
Stating that Central security forces are unleashing a reign of terror in the State by eliminating innocent citizens under the immunity granted by AFSPA, the Lup said that there was no reason why the State Govt should keep on imposing the black laws when it has failed to serve its purpose.
The Lup also strongly condemned the cremation of Manorama's body by the Govt without the consent of the victim's and added that such actions of the people will only encourage the public to become more violent.
Meanwhile, Apunba Kanglei Leimarol Inat Phurup (AKLIPH) and Meetei Mayek Shintak Loishang (MASHAL) have also condemned the custodial death of Manorama.
Police action flayed: Strongly decrying the brutal use of force by Manipur Police Commandos on Manipur University students union members while staging a peaceful sit in protest in front of the Raj Bhavan gate, Kongpal Nupi Samaj And Social Welfare has termed the police unruly actions as barbaric and inhuman which should be condemned by one and all.
Appealing to the higher police officials to rein in their subordinates, the Lup said that unruly actions of the police personnel will only invite more violent agitation instead of pacifying the public.
