Several student, women and voluntary organizations pledged to take part in the mass public rally proposed tomorrow to denounce the Thangjam Manorama Devi�s killing and demand for scrapping of AFSPA as well as punishment to 17 Assam Rifles personnel involved in the extra-judicial killing.
North Imphal United Clubs and Meirapaibees Organization, Koirengei Bazar calling upon all the organizations and communities residing along the National Highway 39 till Mao to take part at the rally in their traditional dresses informed that after assembling at Old Airfield at 9 am the rallyists would march till THAU ground, Thangmeiband to join other protesters.
The rally along Mayai Lambi will begin from Mongshangei Boroi Makhong Lampak at 11.30 am, informed Social Union Nascent Club, Mongshangei.
Other organizations that pledged support and would participate at the rally are Naharol Apunba Yaipha Lup (Uripok Khaidem Leikai), Standard College Students� Union, Education and Cultural Upliftment Assn of Kangmong (Nambol), Kangmong Leimakhong Women�s Assn, All Manipur Nupi Marup, Kwakeithel Nganapithong Mapal Nupi Lup, Patsoi part II Makha Leikai Women�s Development Assn, Naoriya Pakhanglakpa Kendra Clubs� Co-ordinating Committee, United Muslims Council Manipur (Kshetrigao), Moral Educational Intellectual Renascent and Athletic Association (Bashikhong), and Kangleipak Muslim Chanura Development Organization (Hafiz Hatta) among others.
Pledging to participate at tomorrow�s mass public rally Kuki Students� Organization affirmed that it would never relent till demands for lifting AFSPA is complied with by the Government while calling upon the people of the community to take part at the rally.
Endorsing the current movement and pledging to carry on until and unless and AFSPA is completely lifted from the State, UCM Loitoijam Unit has said it join the rally organized by the 32 voluntary organizations.
Imphal West Students Club Khumbong, Kongpal Chanam Leikai Development Organisation - Imphal East, Kongpal Chanam Leikai Chaokhat thourang Nupi Lup, KCDO Pukchao-pat - Kongpal Chanam Leikai, Kangleipak Loinasilon Apunba Marup (KLM) - Nityainanda Complex, Meitei Mayek 36 Shandokpa Luplel Kangla Imphal, People's Action Committee against Brutal Custodial killing of Th Monorama Devi, Bamon Kampu - Imphal East, Imphal Bazar Community, Leimarembi Self Help group and Apu-nba Nupi Khunai Lamjing Meira Lup Yairipok have also pledged to support the public rally be held tomorrow for removal of AFSPA and punishment of killers of Manorama.
Meanwhile, several bodies also strongly condemned inhumane attitude of State police personnel in foiling MUSU protesters at the Raj Bhavan gate on July 26.Describing the police crack-down as barbaric and anti-democratic Oriental College Students� Union, Naharol Apunba Yaipha Lup (Uripok Khaidem Leikai), Standard College Students� union, Manipur College Students� Union, Ideal College, Ch Iboyaima Hr Sec School, Singjamei Girls Hr Sec School, Chingamakha High School, A meeting of Manipur University Working Women�s Association held on July 26 expressed deep shock and grief on the brutal killing of Manorama by personnel of 17 AR.
members present at the meeting also decried the inhumane conduct of the security men while describing the extra-judicial killing as dishonoring woman folk of Manipur.
Asserting that history is proof of no force on earth able to trample movements launched by the students, a joint statement of MSF, Desam and AMSU called upon the people to take at the ongoing agitations against security force excesses.
Reiterating that the three student organizations would agitate till July 30, the joint statement also demanded a clear cut stand of all the regional and national political parties on the people�s movement.
In the meantime, condemnations continue to pour in unabated over the killing of the 32 year old woman and excesses of security personnel in dispersing peaceful protests.
