Imphal, July 28:
Blaming the State Govts reluctance to repeal Disturbed Area Act from Manipur as desired by the people as the main factor for the tumultuous situation prevailing at present Manipur University Students Union cautioned the State authorities against testing the tolerance limit of the masses.
MUSU also expressed strong objection to reported proposal of State Govt for scrapping Armed Forces Special Powers Act 1958 from some parts of valley districts and Ukhrul.
Describing the proposal as short-sighted MUSU explained that such partial lifting of the draconian law is akin to driving wedge amongst the various communities who have been striving for emotional integrity of all people.
Moreover, the proposal reflects the weakness of State administration and tantamount to indirectly supporting black laws despite thorough knowledge that such acts have only resulted in slaying innocent civilians under the guise of containing insurgency movement.
The State Govt instead of pursuing measures to please the Centre should endorse and comply with genuine aspiration of the general masses who have suffered enough of SFs excesses, observed MUSU in a press statement.
Asserting that it would never accept anything less than total lifting of AFSPA from the entire State the University students union strongly condemned politicians of opposition parties for their lack on initiatives against black laws.
Same as the Govt favoring continuation of the various repressive acts for personal security of its Ministers, opposition legislators visualizing future prospect of coming into power are also adverse to removal of AFSPA, charged MUSU.
such an attitude of the both the ruling and opposition party legislators has emboldened the Indian security force and State police personnel to repeatedly abuse human rights with the State Govt unable to protect its people from the security force atrocities, it said.
