Imphal, May 07:
The vacant posts of the Manipur Human Rights Commission has been finally plugged with the appointment of the rights panel's members.
The Governor Dr Shivinder Singh Sidhu, by virtue of the power vested on him under relevant provisions of Protection of Human Rights Act 1993 had on May 5 ordered appointment of three fresh members of the Commission, informed source said.
The new members are retired Judge S Gourachand Singh, Lt Col (retd) RK Rajendra and advocate Ng Nongyai.
Gourachand is informed to have assumed charge from today.
The appointment is in consonance with the April 30 Gauhati High Court Imphal Bench verdict asking the State Government to effect the appointments 'as soon as possible'.
