Imphal, May 07:
All Naga Students' Association, Manipur (ANSAM) has taken strong exception to the statement made by the United Committee, Manipur (UCM) under the caption "UCM decries Chare-namei's remarks" in a local daily on April 16 edition.
An ANSAM statement said that Outer Parliamentary Constituency Lok Sabha MP Mani Charenamei's remarks was an expression of the Naga people's aspiration to live together as one people under one political ambit.
Charenamei had reportedly made a speech in favour of the Naga integration issue at Solidarity Park in Kohima on the occasion of the 21st General Conference of the Naga Students' Federation on April 22 last.
The ANSAM statement made available to Newmai News Network today by its president Paul Langhu and its assistant general secretary Asinpou Raimei, pointed out that if the remarks of the Naga are construed as threat to certain community then we Nagas are sorry because we have made our position very clear to the entire world that we Nagas would live together under one administrative unit and entity".
It is the Naga peoples' decision which will prevail for the Nagas, and no Naga representatives either in Manipur Assembly or in Parliament can afford to betray the aspiration of Naga people, ANSAM said.
The Naga students' body also declared that the Nagas would respect the history and culture of other neighbouring communities but the Nagas would not compromise truth and justice "because the Nagas have their own history for which the Nagas enter into political dialogue with the government of India".
The statement added, "It is also a fact and history will tell that Nagas live in their own land inherited from their forefathe is.
Therefore the Nagas will oppose any odd that thwarts the string which binds the Naga people to isolate from the Naga family".
The ANSAM terms the demand of the UCM to seek clarification from the Manipur Government and the Outer Lok Sabha MP on the Naga Integration issue is illogical and irrational.
It also urged upon all the people and the organisations to maintain mutual respect for each other.
Prayer session: All Manipur Christian Organisation (AMCO) will be organising a one day prayer and fasting programme on May 15 for peace and religious harmony in the State.
